Day 2

4:45pm

And that’s a wrap! Thank you everyone for attending!

4:30pm

A final word from TCA Board Member and CEO of Culture Amp, Didier Elzinga.

4:15pm

We’ve got an entire tech ecosystem here supporting the Australian Women’s Football team. Carn the Tillies!

4:00pm

It would be remiss of us not to have a word from Jenny Simpson of Football Australia given the current World Cup!

3:00pm

After a quick break, we’re back for the second half of our workshops!

Future-Proofing the Workforce: When it comes to talking about skills and talent, there is no one more suited for the task than Didier Elzinga, CEO of Culture Amp.

2:30pm

Future-proofing the workforce: Our next guest is Joanne Ahern, Global Equality Talent Partner at Salesforce.

“There are a multiplicity of ways people can choose to identify (by gender, nationality, sexual orientation, pronounces, disability status, military status and more.) What you can measure, you can impact. By allowing employees to voluntarily self-ID, you become more aware and can then build the tools and resources employees need to succeed.”

Shaping AI: Our AI workshops are well under way! In the standards stream, Jason Matusow gave a great talk on the importance of standards as a way to harness AI technologies and bridge the gap between high-level principles and operationalisation of those principles in practice.

2:15pm

Future-Proofing the Workforce: Next up we have Louise Vidal (Nobes), Founder of KIK Innovation Ltd and 42 Adelaide,

Everyone should have access to the best learning and your social status should not hinder you. We don’t need more awareness on getting more young people into STEM in unversity because it’s not an awareness issue; it’s a system issue. Rather than relying purely on high school scores, we need to look at alternate pathways into education.

2:00pm

Shaping AI: Generative AI technologies present a huge economic opportunity for Australia. But what does the upside potential look like and what are the numbers to back that up?

Kate Pounder delves into the economic modelling underpinning our latest report with Microsoft on the opportunities of Generative AI and how Australia can best harness the technology to generate economic and productivity benefits across the economy and society.

1:50pm

How can we future-proof our workforce? Sarah Moran of Girl Geek Academy addresses the need for more women in STEM. The brilliance bias speaks to the idea that women are not allowed or encouraged to be brilliant.

1:40pm

Shaping AI: Elanor Huntington, Executive Director at CSIRO is giving us an excellent crash course on AI technologies, what they are, what they entail and ways to best conceptualise and think about AI.

Future-Proofing the Workforce: According to Sarah: Why are we not seeing change? Women are passionate and engaged in STEM but they are squeezed out of learning and industry at every stage from primary school to senior leadership. We need to fix the system; not the girls.

1:30pm

Our workshops are about to begin! Our attendees get to choose between Shaping AI and Future-Proofing the workforce.

1:00pm

Tons of local tech businesses are showing off their wares at the Tech Minds Meet. Great to see companies like Canaria Technologies getting involved!

12:30pm

We’re particular excited about the Tech Minds Meet. All of our attendees have immediate access to pick the brains of all of our panellists, speakers and specialists.

9:30am

Tuning into a great panel discussion on Queensland’s tech opportunity with some of the state’s leading tech experts and founders. Our panel have started and run companies across the state from Rockhampton to Goondiwindi and Logan.

Their stories are a fascinating case study of how the tech sector can promote innovation across rural and regional Australia and add value to communities by creating new jobs and opportunities, supporting local economies and solving pressing challenges like climate change.

And there’s great reason to build and run tech companies in Queensland. The state’s tech ecosystem has a strong sense of community, a spirit of resilience and resourcefulness and expertise in a range of areas from digital assets to robotics and manufacturing.
