The Tech Council of Australia (TCA) welcomes the federal Government’s announcement of ‘Quantum Australia’ — the successful bid for the Australian Centre for Quantum Growth program and another important step forward in delivery of the National Quantum Strategy.
Quantum technology is an area where Australia punches above its weight. According to TCA research, Australia has the right foundations for a globally successful quantum industry – we are already home to more than 3% of global quantum start-ups and are attracting 3.6% of global venture capital investment, well above our 1.6% share of global GDP.
Ryan Black, acting CEO, said on the Government’s announcement, “The Tech Council of Australia, home to the Australian Quantum Alliance (AQA), welcomes the establishment of Quantum Australia to support the future growth of Australia’s globally-leading quantum industry.”
“The TCA and AQA share a vision for a thriving quantum industry in Australia that enables innovation, jobs and economic prosperity and this strategic investment by the Government will support this effort.”
“Quantum Australia – a centre focused on industry development – will help ensure our world-leading quantum research continues to be commercialised into cutting-edge technologies produced here in Australia. We are excited by the partnership the University of Sydney has brought together with industry leaders such as Q-CTRL and Quintessence Labs and academic partners such as Sydney Quantum Academy.”
“Quantum commercialisation will deliver billions of dollars in economic value and thousands of jobs by 2030 globally and in Australia, while supporting our strategic and national security objectives.”
“Australia’s lead in quantum technology development is the result of strong government investment and support for decades. We look forward to continuing work with the Minister for Industry and Science, the Hon Ed Husic MP, on the implementation of the National Quantum Strategy and further investment in Australia’s quantum capabilities,” Mr Black said.
