About Us

The Tech Council of Australia (TCA) is the united voice of Australia’s leading technology companies.

We work with government, businesses and the community to shape Australia’s digital future and ensure the tech sector continues to drive economic growth, job creation and innovation.

Technology is now Australia’s third-largest industry by value, contributing $167 billion to the economy annually and employing 980,506 Australians — or 1 in 15 working Australians.

We advocate for the conditions tech companies need to grow, attract investment and create jobs while supporting responsible regulation and skills development for a thriving digital economy.

Our History

The Tech Council of Australia was founded in 2021 to provide a strong, united voice for the country’s growing tech sector. The Council emerged from the success of StartupAUS, with the goal of representing not just startups but companies at all stages -early-stage, scaling and global firms with a considerable Australian workforce.

With 25 founding members, including 99designs, Afterpay, Airtasker, Airtree, Atlassian, Blackbird, Capital [b], Canva, Culture Amp, Deputy, :Different, Google Australia, HealthEngine, Jarden, LiveTiles, Main Sequence, Megaport, Microsoft Australia, Our Innovation Fund, Redbubble, Safety Culture, Sonder, Square Peg, Stripe Australia and Tyro, the TCA launched to advocate for a pro-growth, pro-innovation tech landscape.

Since then, we have expanded to over 150 member companies and achieved key milestones, including:

  • Establishing the 1.2M tech jobs by 2030 national goal.
  • Securing a $1B Technology Investment Boost to increase tech adoption by SMEs.
  • Increasing investment in tech commercialisation including $1B for critical technologies under the National Reconstruction Fund and a $392M Industry Growth Program.
  • Driving employee share scheme reforms to support startups.
  • Advancing privacy, AI and cyber security policies.
  • Promoting skilled migration and education reforms to strengthen the tech workforce.
